Xiao Lu never raised her voice — she fired a shot. In 1989, with two bullets, she shattered not only a pane of glass but also the silence surrounding women’s autonomy in Chinese art. At the time, she did not speak of feminism.

On February 29, 2024, Xiao Lu’s solo exhibition “The Dignity of Remembering” opening at the MARS Gallery in Melbourne, Australia. The opening ceremony started at 6 pm, and some Hong Kong people posted Stickers next to three photos of Hong Kong’s “return in progress” in 2019.

Rubble from Melbourne construction site was placed in the exhibition space at Mars Gallery, using a photo of Xin Jian villages in Beijing at the end of 2017 to symbolize this historical witness of the cleaning away the have-not end of the population.
